RPC functionality within LightWorks: People, Trees and Plants

You will probably have had an increasing number of user requests for you to support RPC in your applications - the latest version of LightWorks is the most cost-effective way for you to respond to this demand. We have introduced support for RPC in LightWorks to make it very easy for you to support RPC within your own application. Here is some information to help you:

What is RPC?

RPC stands for "Rich Photorealistic Content", content created using ArchVision's award-winning Image-Based Rendering technology. RPC's include people, trees and furniture, all easily placed within traditional 3D scenes. RPC Content has rapidly become the preferred industry method of incorporating such complex objects into 3D environments.

How is RPC used?

RPC helps your users communicate designs to their clients, by giving them the power to add photorealistic RPC people, trees as well as other RPC objects, that are viewable from different angles and can be animated. By adding RPC objects to their scenes, your users can give scale to their designs and extra realism.

How does RPC work?

RPC Content is made up of high quality photographic images combined with minimal polygonal geometry to create the illusion of 3D. Appropriate images in the scene are "synthesized" based on the placement of the RPC object and the position of the viewing camera. What is created is the effect of a 3-Dimensional object without the burden of the polygonal complexity. And LightWorks does this all completely automatically for you!

How can I implement RPC into our application?

Cross-platform support for RPC people, trees and other objects is now available in LightWorks and is included within the LightWorks Architectural Toolbox product. The RPC functionality is closely integrated into the standard LightWorks API, providing customers with the quickest and most cost-effective way to add RPC support to their applications, especially if you release your applications on more than one platform. The implementation of RPC in LightWorks is intelligent, extremely efficient, supports the rendering of RPC objects in both software and interactive rendering modes and can be easily integrated into your application. We provide a series of functions to create, place and edit RPC objects directly in the LightWorks scene for maximum ease-of-use.

What’s so good about RPC?

Supporting RPC in your application will be great news for your users as it will give them the opportunity to access the wide variety of image-based RPC content available from ArchVision which currently includes static people, moving people and trees. LightWork Design is able to offer you a fast, easy and extremely cost-effective way to add RPC support to your product. Integrating support for RPC using LightWorks will make your application more attractive and valuable to your users and keep them "inside" your application, without needing to use another company's application.

What are people saying about RPC?

Many of our customers are already using LightWorks to implement RPC support within their applications.

Ridha Baccari, Technology Director at TopAEC:

"We think that LightWork Design’s support for RPC implementation is brilliant; it’s just what our users need to make their images look even more realistic as they can now view their work from any viewpoint without losing any photorealism. We are particularly pleased with the ease of integration of the LightWorks RPC module into our software; the support we received from LightWork Design was second to none and quickly enabled us to offer this additional feature to our users."

Alexandra Yessios, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at auto•des•sys, Inc.:

"We are excited to hear about the support for RPC within LightWorks. The opportunity to include RPC content within images will be particularly useful to our customers and will let them create even more realistic designs. Using LightWorks will make it much easier for us to offer this technology to our users and we hope to implement this within form•Z very soon."

Jari Siikarla, software designer in charge of visualisation development at Vertex Systems Oy:

“To have RPC support available within the familiar LightWorks API will dramatically reduce our development time; allowing our customers to enjoy RPC in the next release of our Vertex Interior and Vertex Building Design applications. Our customers will then be able to visualize their design concepts faster, more realistically, and truer to their original ideas.“
