Every year Lightworks chooses a charity to support through a variety of fund raising activities. Although we have worked with national charities, for the last couple of years we have supported charities working in our local community. Last year Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice were the beneficiaries - a children's hospice doing some incredible work for children with terminal illnesses.
This year we have decided to support the Cathedral Archer Project (CAP) here in Sheffield. CAP offers support to the homeless in the city, providing them with food, activities and support to try and get them back into housing and employment. Last week we went down to visit the project ,which is located in a purpose built facility next to the cathedral, to meet some of the staff, volunteers and beneficiaries. It always feels very humbling to meet people who are willing to give up their time to help those who for many and varied reasons have ended-up on the streets.
Our assistance this year will take a number of different formats. We have sponsored a week of breakfasts in May, we're donating some clothing that we have accumulated over the years, and we're raising money through sponsorship for running the Sheffield Half Marathon; taking part in the Wild Warrior challenge (think mud, running and assault courses), and a crazy event that will see four of us climb Ben Nevis, cycle 25 miles and kayak across a loch! We are also going to be helping out in the centre over the year.
As well as giving something back to the community, these activities are great for team building and morale. As a company that takes its social responsibility very seriously, I feel extremely proud to be involved with helping support these amazing charities.
